United Airlines Carry-On Size Policy Explained

Understanding their carry-on size policy can save you time and money. United allows one carry-on bag (9” x 14” x 22”) and one personal item (9” x 10” x 17”) per passenger. However, if you’re traveling in Basic Economy, you can only bring a personal item unless you qualify for an exception, such as being a MileagePlus Premier member or a United credit cardholder. Bringing a full-size carry-on in Basic Economy may result in a $25 gate handling fee plus a checked baggage charge. Additionally, if you’re flying on United Express regional flights, overhead bin space is limited, and you may need to gate-check your carry-on.
